the summer of making: sweetheart crochet garland

Hey, guess what? It's actually quite easy to make this cute garland. No word of a lie.

You'll need a 4.5mm hook, a bunch of different DK weight yarns (I used cream and 8 different shades of blue). First, make 13 hearts as below:

Itty Bitty Heart Pattern
Make a magic loop.
Round 1:
 Into the loop: 3ch, 2 tr, 3dc, 1ch, 1tr, 1ch, 3dc,2tr, 3ch.
Pull the magic loop!  Join with a ss into the centre of the ring.
Round 2:
4ch, 1tr into every stitch, 4ch.
Join with a ss into centre of the ring.
Weave in ends, or work them into the dc stitches in to next stage.

To join the hearts:
Take a yarn you've not used yet. Ss into the bottom point of your first heart, 2dc in the same space, *1dc in the next st, 2dc in the next st, repeat from * until you reach the top centre of the heart. 1dc into top centre of heart. Continue working 1dc and 2dc alternately into each stitch until you reach the bottom. Work 1dc into the bottom point and then ch20.

Work around all the other hearts in the same way, starting from the top centre instead. Once you've worked all the way around the heart, you'll need to ss back down into each st along one side to get back to the bottom point before you ch20 and attach the next heart.

And you're done!

Sometimes it's fun to tape things into a heart shape. This was one of those times.

Mmmmm . . .garlandy.
