I'm guessing you're familiar with this particular kitty meme. In the vein of 'If it fits, I sits', I've adopted a brand new approach to my knitting: if I sits, I knits. It's basically the idea that there are very few places where you can't knit (see Stephen West's #placeswhereyoucanknit hashtag on Twitter or Instagram for inspiration) and that you can be way more productive if you really use every opportunity to knit. Too early to meet a friend? Get your knits out. Queueing in the post office? Knits out. In the last week I've consistently knitted through my commutes and lunch breaks, knitted in the bank, queueing for a spa and at the theatre. Obviously there are some limits. It's pretty difficult to eat and knit at the same time and I draw the line at knitting on the loo (although I have contemplated bath knitting - can it be done? Maybe if I had some sort of floatation device for my WIP?).
Either way, I've found this really works. With this mindset, I've made loads of progress on my much belated Crafts from the Cwtch Makealong shawl – I hit the 60% mark this week! Wanna see?
And the even better outcome is that I actually finished something! The Honey Honey hat from this post. Yes, it took ages and there was a definite disaster week when I went wrong and thought all was lost, but that scrummy honeycomb texture makes it all worth it. Plus, found the perfect home for that little ginger alpaca pompom from TOFT. Love it. All the details are on Ravelry here.

that hat is so awesome, and I had no idea there were alpaca pom poms, I need those in my life!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Julie. It's sooo soft! Was waiting for the perfect project for it to shine. Check out http://www.thetoftalpacashop.co.uk/
DeleteLovely WIP and FO! The winter can come now. ;) Not that I would mind if it did right now. It's sweltering!
ReplyDeleteJust today I decided not to take my knitting with me to work. Turns out my lunch breaks are shorter than expected and I had been carrying a new project with me for half a week without actually knitting. So, sadly, if I sits, I do not always knits - but everybody should!
I know, finish a woolly hat and a heatwave kicks in! I know your feels about lunch breaks though. Thinking about starting a t-shirt yarn rug - won't be very portable!
Deletegorgeous hat! and the shawl is coming along beautifully :) I usually have my knitting wherever I go,though with the hot weather and working through a Goodreads challenge, i have been reading more, but i NEVER watch TV without my knitting! :) jenny xx
ReplyDeleteThe hot weather has been hampering my attempts this week. Just seen your finished aran cardi - looks gorgeous! :)
DeleteLove the hat and the shawl is looking pretty great too! Keep at it :-) x
ReplyDeleteThanks Gill, have come to a bit of standstill with it this week, but will soldier on. Maybe should have picked a shorter pattern for the makealong! :) x
DeleteI guess it's not easy to make a hat like this one. I also guess there's some satisfaction to have it done and of course, to wear it.
ReplyDelete...In the unlikely event that you are early to meet your friends...
ReplyDeleteYour knitting is so small and neat! I am unendingly envious. x
Such a great hat!
ReplyDeleteThe colour and pom pom are great :)

ReplyDeleteThanks Kathy! Looking forward to a bit of cooler weather so I can finally wear it! :) x
